The Replacements

Sooooo....after certain rumors in certain posts about certain sidekicks leaving, I thought I would pose a hypothetical question. If the rumors are true, and there is now an empty seat on the program...then who would you like to fill it? Why would you want them to fill it? Should it even be filled at all?

By the way, this could be anybody. I'm obviously implying famous (or semi-famous) comedians, but you can mention anyone that would add to the program. It could be someone who was last on the program during the Carter administration, yourself, your Uncle Dave who gets drunk at Christmas and tells obscene stories about your dad, etc. Just explain why this person is funny/charming/psychopathic enough to entertain you during your morning routine.

From out in left field I'll nominate Alan Colmes. Never work, but the guy is very likeable and can be very funny when he wants to be. Actually used to be a stand up comedian years ago.

FYI - Bernie filled in for Scarborough yesterday. Never listen to that show - it's beyond awful, but happened to skip buy while in the car.

Replace that empty seat with phone calls from the I-listeners...

some of the most honest, real and amusing moments come from when Imus used to take random calls from the listening audience...

There was even a college girl out there who named her blog after what Imus would sometimes say to his callers..."get off my phone!"

This is not exactly on subject I know, but just got done listening to Mark Halpern and the thought comes to mind that he is so much better than any of the old Newsweek crowd that Imus used to have on.

Good question you pose, CG. And what makes this even more fun is that it's completely hypothetical as we all know the old cowboy doesn't look for or take our input.

But the way I guess he goes, and the way he probably should go, is to not even fill the vacancy. Not sure there is even a vacancy. One might look at it as a standing-room only crowd getting smaller.

Any time that Karith had filled lately (what, 5 minutes a week?) is best served by, as I've been saying, getting Rob and Tony more involved in the banter.

And Mr. Robio, if you're reading this, any shot of the embattled Mets GM paying another visit to the show? Omar might soon have nothing better to do, anyway :)

Been suggested a few times.

Other than that, you want a great, sassy, FUNNY black woman? I recco Yameneika Saunders, Joanna Briley.. Not Black: Laurie Kilmartin, Lizz Winstead, Cynthia Levin...you want more? Toss in Chris Cashman becaue his FATHER, Pat, is funny, too...Little People, Tanyalee Davis? BIG?

Me. Because it is all about me. :)

Bring Larry back if none of our suggestions don't pan out.

Hey, I didn't know that Bernie had subbed for Scarborough! Here's the link from their website:

The downside, though, is that Mika is there. :(

Everybody has GREAT answers, btw. :)

Honestly, the first choice that comes to mind for me is Larry Kenney, because he's funny. There are some problems with his characters - Cronkite and Falwell are dead, Kennedy is sick - but hey, he delivered the goods. If not him, maybe a funny comedian who's younger (like maybe a few years older than me) in order to get that youth demo. If not that, I'd just leave it vacant and get the already-funny cast members to come up with something. And they usually do.

One of the negative side effects about Mr. Kenney leaving is that we also lost a lot of Charles' comedy. Yeah, his headlines are hilarious, but you don't usually see them unless you're watching RFD - which most people don't - or if you check the website, which you only do if you're a diehard fan. For the people who are just flipping the stations...they miss that.

Speaking of which, this made me want to hide under my desk: ;)

Jeebus, that is quite a rant. Very funny. Shame I missed it the first go round, but I had left for work by then

That was a pretty funny bit that Rob and Tony did this morning! the talent is there, just needs to be utilized!

Wonder why Imus hasn't mentioned that Hannity will be at the Ranch TODAY...

Al said...

Then again, maybe the I-Man doesn't know that Hannity will be coming to the Ranch..

Hey, I-Man, company's coming!...lol

Rob's line(in the Tony/Rob bit) "(burp) I need some eggs"...funny stuff!

I haven't watched the show in a few weeks, who might be leaving and why? Thanks!

Al said...

Karith, it appears, has done left the show, Anon...

Anonymous said...

Thanks Al. Any idea why? Did Imus talk about it at all?

Queenpat said...

no. He may think Al Shaprton will camp on his door step if he does.

If I were in charge of making promos, I think I would do one consisting solely of Charles screaming, "YOU HATCHED FROM SATAN!!!! YOU HATCHED FROM SATAN!!!!", and then the station ID. Classic.

Silent disappearances.....
Karith from the show, Imus.com, WABC.com
Any reference to Imus on Karith's website
Support Imus and Imus Times Websites

keyboard.jockey said...

mtnherbal,

I think some of those disappearances are because of the official website and Inside Imus. More websites for the show is better because this keeps a higher profile for Imus In The Morning, on the internet. It has to do with search engine hits, link clicks ect... The Official Website has added a blog roll they need to be added onto other websites blog rolls so they can cross drive web traffic...Yes I know this all sounds nerdy :)

simple explanation for old media "if eyeballs are being re trained to the internet - new media" you want your media front and center multiply and be fruitful. You don't want to shrink you want to expand. Eye Candy doesn't hurt either multimedia - video ect...

Programming alert: Bo Dietl is hosting on WABC (wabcradio.com) right now. His guest is that reverend from Harlem who supported Hillary Clinton last year and called Obama a "mack daddy."

CG said...

Bo and the Mack Daddy preacher are on the air? Without adult supervision?

Will the station still have its license by tomorrow's program? ;-)

Larry Kenney's birthday is this Wednesday.

CG said...

Yay for birthdays!

I actually thought of Larry Kenney yesterday when I was reading the following article. It turns out that after Walter Cronkite died, the New York Times published a ridiculously error-filled retrospective about him. It had something like seven mistakes in it, and all of them were easy to fix. They printed the wrong dates for the Moon landing and the MLK assassination; they spelled a satellite wrong; they said he "stormed the beach" at Normandy, even though he didn't; and on and on. It was so bad that an editor had to write a lengthy article apologizing for it. Read and be amused/horrified:

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/
02/opinion/02pubed.html

Anyway, I brought this up because of the fact that when I read it, the first thing I thought of was "Walter Cronkite" delivering a monologue, from the Great Beyond, and complaining about how no one could proof his obituary. I'm sure Messrs. Kenney and McCord could've done a GREAT segment on that one. :-)

Hi CollegeGirl,

When do classes begin? Hope you get all A's.

I would love to see Imus bring Larry Kenney back to the show. Imus, I'm begging you -- Free Larry Kenney. Please.

He's got a website. Leave him a note, he'll reply.

Imus just mentioned Karith but as an appearance in a couple of gigs.

Al said...

Karith?

Not easy being a woman and working on air with Imus. Throughout the years, women who have worked with Imus ON Air, could not wait to leave the show...

or so it seemed.

And after reading her latest blog post, PD Cantillo sounds like she would love to leave WABC...

DL said...

Been listening to the show for almost 20 years and I can't recall any women on the show other than the traffic person at WFAN. Maybe I'm wrong. He certainly has a bunch of female guests. My favorite, Laura Ingraham is on tommorow.

I think "Cantalopes" blogs are totally tongue in cheek and are terrific.

The new Bernie segment has potential. We'll see......

Al said...

He's had a few women news reporters...Jane Metzler, then there was the woman who left to go to MSNBC, then the woman who left to go to Fox(she now does weather at FOX...i guess those are the only 3 that have worked on air with Imus...

Al said...

oh, and I don't wanna leave out Contessa Brewer...lol...she hated, and probably still hates, Imus.

DL said...

Good point. I had forgotten about all things MSNBC. I was most often in the car and never watched the likes of Brewer. Dumb as a post that one.....
