If It's Summer Vacation, Then Why Am I Working?

-Bernard will be subbing for Bob Grant tonight from 8-10 PM EST, while Mr. Grant goes on vacation. So if you want to hear this program, hopefully you'll read this blog between now and 10 PM. If you didn't, then, well, my bad.

-A political humor question: Is this JibJab cartoon the best we can hope for in the next 4 years? Oh, man. Now, granted, I only saw 30 seconds of it, so maybe the remaining two minutes are the Sistine Chapel of political comedy. If so, I will stand corrected. But the talking heads are acting like George Carlin just rerose from the dead. Actually, all the praise for it makes me feel a little happier, because if that's the best kind of humor out there, then I'll have an easier time getting stuff published in the next few years. The bar will be lower.

On a sort-of-related note, Maureen Dowd has a column about this subject. It's a great piece, and I know we have some Mo Dowd fans in the house.

CG,

Why can't Maureen find a quality man? I mean you know a retro sexual, not metro sexual GRIN.

CG,
Have you noticed what a tremendous void there is when Imus isn't on the air, like now...there really is a lack of quality, intelligent humor out there...

If Bernard subs tonight, then does that mean he won't be subbing for Imus tomorrow morning?

It's gonna take the Dowd woman the rest of her life to deal with all her apparent issues. Her and Imus would have made a great couple, but it's too late now...

Bernie is doing a great guesting for Bob Grant. So far he has railed against the PC Police and is now talking with Ron Insana talking about the economy. Bernie's conclusion "it all makes you want to go out and grab a bag of heroin and a six pack!"

As a sidebar he will be appearing on H&C this evening talking about the Obamas New Yorker cover. Bring it on!

I discovered your blog for the first time when my "Bob Grant" Google Alerts alerted me to this posting. Being a fan of both Grant and Imus, I will continue to check back periodically.

PS: I love the "get off my phone" URL - I haven't heard Grant say that in years and wish he would reprieve that line every now and then to callers who irritate him.

I happened to be driving, there was no Mets baseball and all the music stations were on commercial so I figured I would check out what old Bob Grant was up to. Was pleasantly surprised to hear Bernie, though did anyone notice that his voice was a little different than usual? I couldn't figure out whether he toned down the Bronx accent a little (doubtful) or what.

And THANK YOU for not being afraid to criticize this new JibJab. It was OK, but nowhere near the This Land is Your Land or the Bush Second Term classics.

Hey, I'm happy someone else had the same opinion of the Jibjab video! Since everyone and his cousin was praising it, I thought I'd get some disgruntled comments. It didn't suck, but it just wasn't up to the level of "This Land is Your Land." Great minds think alike on that one, I guess. ;-)

As for Mo, do you remember that racy pic they had of her in Vanity Fair, and Charles (or someone) thought that she had "hobbit feet"? Haha, wow. Great description, BAD MENTAL IMAGE. Actually, she IS really, really gorgeous (and smart).

Bernie was also great on the Factor - I had no idea that he would be on there and I caught the repeat. Good for him. Though I wonder - why is he appearing everywhere all of a sudden? (I didn't catch Bob Grant; will listen tomorrow, when I'm working.)

CG, I was wondering the same thing about Bernard suddenly appearing everywhere...

Maybe they are trying to figure out where Bernard fits best..the mornings?..evernings? TV? Radio?

hmm, where to put Bernard...

Then again, maybe they are grooming Bernard to take over for either Grant or Imus, whichever one leaves radio first...Imus and Grant are getting some miles on them, you know.

Bernard to the rescue!

I enjoyed Bernie on ORF, thought he'd be a great sub, as he was last week, the only times I listened to WABC.

Yeah, I hope it's a sign that he's off to greater things...just not yet. :-)
