An Ode To An Oft-Underappreciated Cast Member of 'Imus in the Morning'

I can take care of myself.

I can make a peanut butter sandwich.

I can brush my teeth, and I can give myself a bath.

I can walk home alone from school.

I can pick dinner from the trash behind the deli.

I can watch the baby for the whole weekend.

I can keep a baseball bat by my bed just in case there's trouble.

Don't worry about me - I can take care of myself.

**********************************************************

(If you have no idea what this is about, click here. You'll experience the joys of the imusonair.com live stream, which I've stopped listening to for obvious reasons.)

(Also: you know those other PSAs that claim that if a parent screams at people, their kids will be raised like wolves? Let's just say that if this is true, I should've been put in foster care.)

College Girl. Your blog is SO addicting...

PSA's have always driven me up the wall!

...and this one is particularly annoying...

Have you tried TalkStream?

I just started getting my stream thru them...they do a nice job!

...although, I may have heard that PSA there too...I just can't remember right now.

What about when I scream at imusonair what do my children learn about that? I'll tell you what, people who can't sell advertising are losers and just fill the airwaves with nonsense to cover up incompetence. At this point it is a family chant., now bow your heads. ChanX

So, is WABC having a difficult time selling advertising for Imus in the Morning?

and...
Guess the reason Imus didn't talk about Bob Grant yesterday is because, apparently, Imus didn't know about the Grant situation until last night, when he was watching Hannity and Combs.

Imus sure bagged on the morning guys at WFAN...lol. Are those guys that bad?

Good to hear Sal Marchiano! He still sounds great...

just one more cow...

LOL the words of those PSA's have been burned into my brain, even though I dive for the mute as fast as I can.

Al - yep, Boomer and Carton on WFAN are really THAT bad. Which is a little sad, because I personally love Boomer Esiason since he's from my area and he does a pretty good job on the NFL Today. But he and Craig Carton don't belong together - Carton is a shock jock and Boomer likes to stay clear of any and all controversy - so they just end up talking football endlessly.

The 'FANs always been my default radio station (although now it's shifting more towards WABC), so I begrudingly listened to them until Dec. 3rd. They literally were breaking down the Giants' second game until Wednesday.

And hey, did anyone notice that since the top of the hour ::quack quack:: came back today (or was it yesterday?), it's sounds louder/more deliberate? lovin' it.

This is about streaming the program on the internet. It isn't going un noticed.

Yeah, Mike, I, for one DID notice the duck...one day after Imus complained, the duck was back...and it DID sound a little different...kinda like 'quack-quack-damit-
don't-mess-with-me-again'.

laree, it's good that my voice recorder has a fast forward, so I can go right past all those annoying psa's and commercials. The traffic/weather ladies are kinda fun to listen to, though.

The word on Larry Kenny is that he will no longer be on 'Imus in the Morning'...for some unexplained reason...

perhaps some contractual situation?

Maybe CollegeGirl will dig up some info...

College Girl,All,

Marty Davis is planning on interviewing Al Sharpton at the R&R awards, she would like anyone so inclined to leave her questions and comments at

marty@chickaboomer.com

These Questions and Comments will be posted in the "Boombox" public so all can read the ongoing commentary.

This is Marty's latest blog on the subject of Bob Grant and the R&R who recinded the award they offered him. I believe everyone listening or watching Imus in the Morning on Friday knows something about this issue.

Chickaboomer is in the blog roll of Imus times. I Love Imus is no longer blogging. Thank you so much I Love Imus, I really appreciate your contribution witty and informative.

Al - it's a long story on how I know this, but I would take the Larry Kenney gossip with a grain of salt. Trust me on this one. As for the ad time...well, that's what Allan Sniffen said, so I don't know. You'd have to trust his source.

I've heard some good stuff about Talkstream, but I've never tried it. I should.

ChanX and Dee, I actually stopped listening to the stream because of the commercials, LOL. When I'm up early, I listen to WABC, and when I sleep in I just listen to the Imustruth podcast.

What I don't get is the aim of that specific commercial. If you listened to the first part, you would just think that it's a warning against child neglect in general. But the real message of the ad is something like, "Think about what would happen to your kids if you committed a gun crime." I really don't get it. They either think that Imus fans are *this close* to going on a rampage, or they know about the mental strains that result from hearing an ad repeated 100000 times. :-)

Mike, that's interesting to hear about Boomer and Carton. I've never listened to them, and I've read mixed reports. To me, the show doesn't really sound that appealing. On another note, Sid R. allegedly has a feud going on with Carton.

And the "return of the duck" was pretty sweet. :-)

That's kinda cool that Boomer comes from your area. I'll admit that I like Boomer when he does NFL stuff on TV. If you ever see him in public, you should yell out "Just one more cow, baby!" and see how he reacts. ;-)

CollegeGirl said...

Laree, that's VERY interesting...I'll have to think about that. Thanks for the tip.

Imus sometimes can't win for losing...or however that saying goes...

After he joins WABC, Imus goes 'soft' on Rush Limbaugh, because he's on the same team with Rush now...and people hammered Imus for being too much of a team player.

So, this week, Imus was kinda late weighing in on the Bob Grant situation and people hammered Imus for NOT being a team player...

amusing stuff...

CollegeGirl said...

I was disappointed with Rob dumping the Rush character, just because there are so many new possibilities for him now that the (real) Rush and Imus share a flagship station. They could have "Rush" beat up Imus in the hallway, or compete with him for the bosses' affection, or stage some other sort of office drama. Plus, they could even use the fake Rush to promote "the real Rush" later in the afternoon. While I can see why they got rid of the character, I think it was a lost comedic opportunity.

laree said...

College Girl,

I am under the immpression that Rush Limbaugh has a sense of humor and Rob very well could keep up the character, naunces anyway he wants to take the character. I don't think Rush is thinned skinned.

Imus just realized when the chips were down it was the competition not his own network MSNBC that came through for him. You can't make this stuff up!

Well, what's the scoop on Larry Kenny, College Girl?

Hey, Larry has a daughter in college, no?

You're not Larry's daughter, are you?

wow, that would be awesome!

CollegeGirl said...

Dude, I wish I was cool enough to be his daughter, because one of kids is on the excellent program Reno 911. One of my favorite shows ever.

Alert:
Jim Nantz has just successfully worked "just one more cow" into the broadcast. I was only half-paying attention while he was talking, but he was talking about a player's father who "was cattle roping, saying just one more cow."

Dee said...

I heard that too - I should have seen it coming with the talk of the player who grew up on a cattle ranch. That was very cleverly done - and with a straight face, which really made me laugh!!

Al said...

Hey, you guys..
THAT was cool!

Jim Nantz is THE MAN!...

CollegeGirl said...

Wow, I love Jim Nantz - and thanks for the alert, everyone. That was amazing. :-)
