Warner Wolf is Back!

It was announced over the weekend and proven true this morning: Warner Wolf has returned to the Imus in the Morning program, where he will do sports updates on the hour. I don't know how long he'll be there, or if this is just a temporary thing, but I believe that he'll be giving sports reports on the show for at least a little while.

How awesome is Warner Wolf? He made a cameo appearance in Rocky IV. That's the one where Sylvester Stallone singlehandedly destroys the Soviet Union and ends the Cold War. It's also the one where fellow boxer Apollo Creed dies. (I truly am not spoiling anything here, because he dies within the first ten minutes of the movie.) But here's the important part: Warner Wolf does commentary on that ill-fated match, where Apollo is killed by the Evil Soviet Boxer who looks like Vanilla Ice on steroids. So, theoretically, one could claim that in the movie, Warner Wolf actually outlives Apollo Creed. For you see, that is the coolness level of Warner Wolf.

I didn't catch today's show...so will Tony now just do some funny stuff and chime in here and there?

If you had Werner Wolf never being on the Imus in the Morning Show again, you lost!

Plus, Werner doing sports frees up Tony Powell, so Powell can write and read more 'Commentary' stuff...

I don't know Tony's role a propos to Warner, but I'm sure that at the very least, Warner is doing this until Tony can get good enough to to sports. Or...he may very well be the new sports guy.

But yeah, Tony now has more time to do his "comedy" stuff, which is his strength. And we the listeners can experience more of Warner Wolf and his awesome catchphrases. :-)

And as for Rocky, there have been TOO many, LOL. I think Stallone promised that Rocky 6 was the last - hopefully he'll stay .

My gut feeling is that Warner Wolf will be on Imus for as long as Imus has no real Sports reporter. Tony Powell is not smooth and is not really interested in doing it. And Imus doing it is defeating the purpose. Remember he must compete with WFAN. And with no real sports information and commentary, he cannot compete.

If and when Imus finds a good one that can take a joke or two, Warner stays. My opinion.

Powell is an entertainer..having him do sports would be like having Rob or Larry do sports...it just ain't their 'thing'...

...and Imus today said that when he's at the Ranch, he better be able to hear the Albuquerque station that he will be on...

Well, Imus may go back to NY irritated...the Albuquerque station has a whole 1000 Watts of power...You kind of have to be across the street from the station to hear it...he'll surely let everone know if he can hear it or not...

In contrast, WABC has 50,000 watts...

CollegeGirl,

Just finished today's show courtesy of DirecTV DVR -- loved it. Warner is 'gettin' it done', and the ensuing laughter from Imus, Bernie, Lou, et al. is music to my ears.

Warner, welcome back -- you make us laugh and that is a beautiful thing. "Now let's go to the videotape."

Phyllis...I LOVE the sound of all the guys laughing hysterically. It puts the biggest smile on my face. :-)

And I'm so happy that Warner is back. I remember being disappointed when I heard that he was leaving WABC. and therefore wouldn't be the I-Man's sportsman. Fortunately, I was wrong.

Al, I've heard the Comcast/Time Warner thing too. Let's hope so. :-)

I didn't know that the reception in Albuquerque was that bad. But if Imus can't hear it, then at least we get to hear a good Imus rant when we get back...
