Weekend at Bernie's

Way back in 2000, the New York Times did a story on Bernard McGuirk. It’s an interesting profile of a fascinating, funny guy.

The writer is pretty floored by the idea that a person can 1. make off-color jokes on the air, yet 2. be a good person and family man off the air. Memo to the Times: It's possible.

The word on the street is that Bernie won’t be a part of the new Imus in the Morning program. And that is a damn shame.

Imus without Bernard is like cake without ice cream...or something.

Oh well, Imus can always get Rosie O'Donnell to take Bernard's place...

The NEW Imus in the Morning is gonna be a whole new deal.

New "dynamics"...

Impressions out here in New Mexico is that Imus is already signed, sealed and ready to deliver...

Guess maybe when the weather turns cold and nasty, Imus will get it in gear....

College Girl,

Call it living in denial, no not the one in Egypt. I can't tolerate the idea of a Bernieless, Imus in the Morning.

Oh I was a grown woman, and if I said, Hell or Damn in front of my father, I got to hear my entire name called out. God Bless you Daddy. Irish American Men, you either get them or you don't.

The Humor Gastapo...yeah that's a good discription. I call them the Sour People, and when Imus was fired, Imus in the Morning canceled, and then Bernie fired, I thought to myself, who put the Sour People in Charge?

College Girl,
I've heard this whispered a few times this summer, and I've simply refused to believe it. Literally refused to. I've been an Imus/Bernie fan since you were skipping to kindergarten with your Imus-in-the-Morning lunchbox (an Imus-ism). If Imus does not hire Bernie, it just kills everything I ever liked/respected about Imus. I just can not digest this, if true. Keep up the good writing!!

I agree with all three of you. Bernie truly is one of a kind, and the show will be a shadow of itself if he isn't there.

I'm hoping along with the rest of you that the NYTimes got that rumor wrong, or that management has changed their minds, or SOMETHING.

McGuirk's been part of the show since 1987 - that's even before the days when I skipped to school with my "Imus in the Morning" lunchbox. (Which incidentally made me the envy of my classmates, all of whom had the same boring Care Bears, Ninja Turtles, and DuckTales lunchboxes. ;-)

Seriously, though, I'm also in denial about his rumored exodus. I also admit that if we find out that Bernie was forcibly denied the opportunity to rejoin Imus, as opposed to voluntarily, then that would really damage my opinion of the I-Man.

College Girl,

I love the end of that article about when and what Bernie observed of Imus, in the hall way walking around in his drawers...that made him think, yes this is the guy. If your of Irish descent it isn't a mystery at all.

I also loved the way he ended that article, Laree. Bernie is hilarious. :-)

(And it also shows how far Imus has come - from being dependent on alcohol and cocaine to completely kicking the habits.)
